Update
This scheduled maintenance is still in progress. Some customers may have experienced a longer than expect pause to I/O at around 2am, which could have resulted in disruption within the guest operating system depending on how disk timeouts are configured for a given O/S type and version.

Overview of Maintenance

Beginning 00:10 in the morning of Thursday the 12th of November, Simply Cloud will be performing an upgrade to the Operating System which runs on the switching stacks that serve cloud and virtual server (VPS) pods in our UK region.

These works are expected to run between 00:10 and 02:10am. During this upgrade process redundant groups of switches will be broken into independent devices and each device upgraded. As part of the final stage, high availability stacks will be reformed with all members running the new software version.

What is the Purpose of this Software Update

Updating the software and operating systems of network equipment forms part of routine maintenance. This maintenance moves the hardware in question to the newest stable release recommend by the vendor and offers increased stability and performance.

How Will this Affect Me?

During these works, various traffic types will move to redundant links and paths. During this failover process, it is possible a brief disruption to switched traffic may be experienced by some users. We anticipate some virtual instances may experience a 'pause' lasting a few seconds as traffic takes these new paths and switching tables update.
